Hello {{Constituent First Name}},

February has been a productive month for conservation efforts in Comal County and the Hill Country as a whole. This month we hosted our first Comal Conservation Social which was a huge success. I want to thank the folks at Faust Brewery for hosting our group, for the resource development committee for putting it together and for our sponsors (House Hunters NB Real EstateNB Par-Tee HausToddcoe Aviation, and Davidek Law Firm)who ramped up the event and encouraged a great turn out.

Just yesterday, Comal Conservation and our partners Hill Country Alliance, Greater Edwards Aquifer Alliance, Headwaters at the Comal, Onera Wimberley and JB Chisum Inc brought nearly 100 developers, engineers, architects, and funders together to discuss low impact development methods and conservation development strategies that reduce the strain development puts on our natural systems and increases profitability. This is the kind of radical collaboration that will be required for our communities to solve the unprecedented environmental issues they are facing. It is also who we are at Comal Conservation

Over the next 10 months collaboration will be guiding force for our work as we continue to expand the tent of conservation, build strategic partnerships, and amplify the efforts of our partners. Everyone in our community has a role to play as we work to preserve land, water, and wildlife in this wonderful county we call home.

You can make a difference today consider volunteering, make a donation, speak up about the environmental issues you care about and explore the wonderful natural resources Comal County has to offer. I am grateful for your efforts!

Building in the Hill Country a Regional Workshop Brings Development and Conservation Communities Together.
By Ryan Spencer

IMG_3391.jpg

On February 26, 2025: Comal Conservation and its partners hosted a regional workshop for developers, architects, engineers, and funders to come together and discuss low impact development techniques, and conservation development strategies that can be employed voluntarily to decrease the strain that developments place on natural systems and increase the profitability of their developments.

The partners Hill Country Alliance, Greater Edwards Aquifer Alliance, Headwaters at the Comal, One Water New Braunfels, and Comal Conservation came together to develop a compelling program. The result was astonishing with the event selling out weeks before it took place.

The site hosts Onera at Wimberley and JB Chisum Inc played a huge role in showcasing these techniques on site, encouraging like minded developers to attend and even helped shape the agenda ensuring that developers would find the workshop valuable.

This was a huge win for our partner group and the first step in bringing developers and the conservation community closer together.

A Few Chosen Words are Often Best.

By Frank Dietz Board Member

It was likely right at seventy-five years ago this winter on a chilled rainy morning that I learned a deeply imprinted life lesson.  Due to the rain and our fourteen blocks walk to school my dad came in his business car and picked up a group of us.  Soon along the way a friend who had brought a biscuit took his late breakfast bites, crunched up the leavings with the wrapper, rolled down the window and tossed his trash.  My Dad pulled over safely, parked the car and walked down to retrieve the trash.  He returned it to my young friend and explained there was a receptacle at the school entrance for trash.  As we arrived at school and were scurrying in my friend tossed his crunched trash appropriately.  I noticed he looked back and my dad with his characteristic cheshire grin pulled away waving.  Not another word was spoken but I have never forgotten the quiet message.

By Amber Heckler

A new list of the most desirable suburbs in America puts one buzzy San Antonio-area city in the top 20: According to a recent growth report by moving services website move Buddha, Canyon Lake comes in at No. 42 on the list of American suburbs that everyone wants to move to.

The survey ranks the suburbs that are the most in-demand in the most populous U.S. metros for 2025.

It ranks cities by two criteria: recent mover search data from January 2024 to February 2025 which reflects moves planned for the current year; and the most recent Zillow Home Value Index data for home averages in each of the 50 biggest metros.
