Conservation Insider - March 2025
Hello {{Constituent First Name}},
Spring is here and during this season of growth and bloom Comal Conservation is growing too! Brandi Bailey has joined the team as our new Administrative Coordinator and I know I speak for our entire Comal Conservation Family when I say how excited we are that she has joined the staff. If you have some extra time please send her a welcome note via her email address brandi@comalconservation.org.
Earth Month (April) is around the corner and we have a ton of events coming up to celebrate. I hope that you'll join us in Landa Park on April 12, 2025 as we celebrate with the New Braunfels Parks and Recreation Department and our partners the Headwaters at the Comal. I also hope you'll consider attending our upcoming discussion on the management of Canyon Lake at Tye Preston Memorial Library on April 22, 2025. The event is likely to be standing room only so get there early and bring your questions for our incredible panelists. Huge kudos need to go out to our partners the League of Women Voters Comal Area for helping bring the event together. It is such an important topic.

In the mid-60’s my beloved launched her teaching adventure with young children. While she completed signing professional documents with the principal, I wandered about outside. A distinct feature at that school on the bluff of the Mississippi River was a wooded corner of the playground area. It was an unusually spacious parcel. I learned later from the grandson of the farmer that offered the school’s parcel that his granddad insisted on deeding that wooded corner with the rest of the school property “so the children would have a little woods to explore.”
Spring arrives in desiccated San Antonio, but certain plants ensure season's beauty can still bloom By Brian Kirkpatrick
Spring officially arrived in San Antonio at 4:01 a.m. on Wednesday, stirring the imaginations of gardeners and landscapers about spring planting.
But major indicators suggest new spring plantings should be done on a smaller scale and be drought tolerant if they are to survive without high water use. Read the entire article here.
